Made from a downed birch tree, this mask has been used in ceremony, and celebration. It is hand-carved by the artist, a Native Alaskan following rigid principles handed down over generations. It is a true piece of esoterica, and not for the feint of heart. In our beliefs, holes in mask denote the afterlife, or the other side of the veil. To look, breath or speak through them is to either look into that place, or give bones to another, by wearing it. She symbolizes bounty, the cycles of the season, and the female body.
